Intellectual Property Regulation Board Up and Running
Added on :
14 January 2010
A new board set up to regulate the Patent Attorney and Trade Mark Attorney professions has come into operation as of January 1st 2010. The Intellectual Property Regulation Board, or IPReg, as it will be known, has been established to provide independent overseeing of both professions with responsibility for ensuring that the regulatory provisions of the Legal Services Act 2007 are met.
IPReg will develop and maintain codes of conduct and practice for several areas of the Patent and Trade Mark professions, including a general Code of Conduct, Education and Training requirements, Continual Professional Development standards and Complaints. IPReg has its own website where interested parties can find out what to expect from Patent and Trade Mark attorneys and where to turn if they have a problem. The website can be found at www.ipreg.org.uk.
Although IPReg is a new entity, its work has already begun, ensuring that high standards of service are set and met by both Patent and Trade Mark attorneys, thereby ensuring clients receive the best possible advice, guidance and professional services.
