2009 US Patents List

The top ten companies receiving US patents in 2009 were recently announced. All are well-known technology companies including Intel, Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic and Samsung Electronics, who came in second to IBM by over 1,000 patents. Between them, these top ten companies were granted over 22,000 US patents. Worth noting, however, is that although fewer patents were granted to Microsoft in 2009, a leading firm of IP analysts believe its patents hold more value than those of IBM. Quality over quantity; a maxim we at Stevens Hewlett & Perkins would endorse.
