Ian is located in the Bristol office where he specialises in UK and foreign trade mark rights, both registered and at common law. Ian joined the firm in 1987 having spent 14 years in the in-house Trade Marks Department of Imperial Tobacco. He continues to have responsibility for the trade mark portfolio of Imperial Tobacco. Ian has acquired great experience not only in securing and maintaining trade marks throughout the world but also in the enforcement and licensing, including merchandising, of trade mark rights. He has been involved in litigation in the UK, Europe and the US and also has experience in trade mark portfolio acquisitions, following both corporate diversification and retrenchment, as well as anti-counterfeiting measures and the use of criminal sanctions, such as Trading Standards provisions, to prevent the abuse of trade mark rights. Ian is one of the firm’s INTA representatives.
