Steve is located in the Bristol office where he manages the firm’s chemistry and biosciences patent department. After graduating from the University of Exeter with a degree in chemistry in 1974, he worked for patent information specialists Derwent Publications and for The Royal Institute of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham before joining the firm in 1977.

Since qualifying as a European Patent Attorney in 1982, Steve has filed and prosecuted many hundreds of patent applications in a diverse range of technologies including chemicals manufacture, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, genetics, starch and sweetener technology, polymer science, adhesives and resin binder technology and healthcare and has represented many clients in opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office in Munich.

Steve became a Partner of the firm in 1991 and has, at the invitation of several UK universities, given lectures to academic staff and research students on patenting inventions.
