Andrew began his career as a patent attorney in 2006, working with a prominent firm in London and Bristol. He became a UK patent attorney in 2010 and a European patent attorney in 2011. Andrew joined Stevens Hewlett & Perkins in 2025.
Andrew has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a variety of technologies, including computing, software, telecommunications, printing systems (2D and 3D), artificial intelligence and household appliances. He also has particular expertise in the healthcare sector, with a focus on ophthalmic laser surgical systems, medical image processing methods, computer-implemented techniques for managing medical data, and personal care devices such as hair care tools, oral care tools and shavers. Andrew has an excellent record of representing clients at hearings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the UK Intellectual Property Office, and has been involved in several oppositions and appeals.
In addition to patents, Andrew regularly advises clients on matters relating to design rights, and has managed the filing and prosecution of registered design applications for a wide range of products, from graphical user interfaces to virtual reality goggles. With a Master’s degree in Physics and the Universe from the University of Reading, Andrew possesses a solid physics background that is relevant across many sectors.
In addition to working with large international corporations, Andrew dedicates time each month to supporting start-up companies with their IP needs. He currently serves as an IP Advisor in Residence at SETsquared Bristol.
Outside of work, Andrew takes part in running events and triathlons, completing London Marathon in 2021 and Ironman Wales in 2023.
