Kate has over 30 years experience of intellectual property law, commencing her career in a small private practice in Liverpool in 1995 after obtaining a MSc in the Management of Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London. Kate qualified as a UK Patent Attorney in 1996 and as a European Patent Attorney in 1998, being awarded the Gill Prize for General Excellence in the chartered institute examinations.
Kate works primarily in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals and surgical instruments but has also handled a significant amount of mechanical work. Specific subject matter for which she has experience includes anti-viral compositions, animal feed supplements, water treatment and desalination processes, industrial coatings, prosthetics, syringe drivers, catheters, biodegradable materials, packaging products, enamel rating processes and dental products.
Kate was made a partner of a large international intellectual property law firm in 2001 and moved from their Liverpool office to their Cheltenham office in 2007 where she remained a partner for another 5 years. In 2012, Kate left the firm to commence her own successful consultancy business providing tailored support to IP law firms.
Kate has extensive experience, having worked for both small and large firms servicing a wide range of clients, including individual inventors, SMEs, universities, foreign associates and large multinational companies.
Kate enjoys spending her free time walking her cockapoo dog and paddleboarding. When she has enough courage to brave the UK weather, she also likes to wild swim in a local lake.
